The Art of Ynez Johnston at Hughes Estate Sales

Hughes Estate Sales will be offering an exciting collection of works by listed California artists during our upcoming Showroom Sale. Among the featured artists is Ynez Johnston (American, born 1920). A collection of hand signed prints, ceramic art, wood and bronze sculpture by this dynamic artist will be on view and available for sale October 2 - 4, 2015 at Hughes Estate Sales Altadena showroom.

Johnston, a UC Berkeley graduate painter and printmaker, launched her career as a successful artist with an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1951. That same year, the artist came to Los Angeles to teach at the Chouinard Art Institute. National and international exhibitions followed, and extended itineraries in India and Europe yielded rich visual experiences. Johnston began to experiment with a variety of media, each showcasing her penchant for dramatic jewel-like color, expressed with bold lines and complex imagery reflecting the influence of her world travels and the art of Persia and India.

Ynez Johnston's work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
